Seicento anni fa, quando arrivò la stampa / Six hundred years ago, when the press got

We are at the dawn of a change, like six hundred years ago, when the early printers began to print the first books in Venice.
Even then, while some intellectuals understood the scale of the phenomenon, others were opposed to change remaining anchored to elitist aspect of reading and handwritten volumes.
So the dominican Filippo da Strada addressed even Doge Marcello asking him even to forbid the press, because whit it the “delicate” young and the “innocent” girls were corrupt in the purity of their mind and body.
Still twenty years later, Filippo da Strada wrote a new poem against the printers before resigning to the new that, by now, resided in the healthy habits of many.
This lovely story will be released in bookstores in March with the title “Stampa Meretrix” published by Marsilio.
What to say? Fortunately, Doge Marcello sensed that something wonderful was about to happen and I guess he was conscious of being a witness. Just like we all that today are witnessing the advance of e-books. Some of us are enthusiastic, others dislike them.
But of one thing we can be certain. While in 1400 Filippo da Strada had a right intuition fearing for his handwritten (manuscripts, in fact, are then completely disappeared as expression of literature and culture), we can rest assured that our paper books will never lose value nor attention.
Soon will be born Officine Editoriali and will be part of that emerging market of e-books of which we write on this site already for some months.
If you want to take part of the project of Officine Editoriali, visit the popular subscription website www.produzionidalbasso.com and consciously book your quotas.
Remember also that in the page “Book your e-book” you can book the first e-book published by Officine Editoriali “Ma il burro lo stavo mangiando io!” of Bibì Zarco.
