Se etimologicamente la parola APPRENDERE significa “impossessarsi”, allora l'e-book è nato per farsi prendere e manipolare e gestire con la mente.

Quando nel 1971 Michael S. Hart ideò il primo e-book, attraverso il Project Gutenberg, pensava proprio ad una diversa diffusione del sapere e della conoscenza e pensava ad accrescere il livello di istruzione e alfabetizzazione.

Anche secondo diversi neuropsichiatri che si occupano dell'infanzia, gli e-book sono dei veri alleati per l'apprendimento, soprattutto per bambini che soffrono di un qualche impedimento verso azioni del genere.

Attraverso un e-book un bambino può interagire con la storia, sottolineando il contenuto, attivando immediatamente della ricerche relative all'argomento di lettura.

Il confronto con un libro cartaceo, naturalmente, è impari. In un libro di carta, la scrittura risulta essere quasi imprigionata, senza possibilità di intercomunicazione.
